As the network grew, Steve began taking fruit-tree orders from friends on the outer islands, coordinating truckloads and boatloads of saplings from the mainland. He distributed and helped plant them across the archipelago, transforming backyards and community plots into thriving food gardens — boosting local production of fruits and vegetables and deepening the islands’ self-reliance.
